2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and the District 36 Fall Education Summit has been designed to help fellow Toastmasters to continue their leadership and communication paths with meetings online. For Toastmasters, clubs, areas, division and the District, we are facing challenges with our member connections. District 36 is convening Toastmaster experts to come together to help you “Transforming the Online into Optimism: Replenish, Revive and Re-engage Yourself and Your Connections." This is our theme for the Education Summit to help you explore actionable ways for the transformation.

Richard E. Peck, DTM, Toastmasters International President for the 2020-2021 program year will inspire you to replenish, revive, and optimize yourself with online global connections. 

 

Learn from featured presenters focusing on transforming your virtual connection at work, at home, and in Toastmasters. We will have a panel discussion with the featured presenters with live questions and answers. We will top the day off, with optional breakout sessions to keep you connected with your fellow Toastmasters and have some fun.

 

Registration

 

Our past in-person conferences serve to inform, bolster, and inspire us.  Plan to do the same virtually.  This is a free event, and you must register to attend. You can expect expert presenters discussing issues relevant to all of us virtually. The Summit is planned to Replenish, Revive and Re-engage Toastmaster members to meet our new normal.

Guest Speakers and Panelists

Richard E. Peck, DTM


Richard Peck, DTM, is Toastmasters International President for the 2020-2021 program year. He worked for over 30 years as a senior member of the Network Support division at AT&T. During his tenure as a project manager, he led cross-functional teams to successfully deliver several multimillion-dollar high-tech projects annually. His volunteer work includes serving as club president and Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis International, serving with Lions Club International, as well as serving in various capacities with the Catholic War Veterans. Peck enjoys traveling, studying world cultures, and helping others achieve more than they believe they can.

Dilip Abayasekara, DTM, PIP


Dilip Abayasekara, DTM, AS, PIP, is a trainer, author, and inspirator for thousands of people in many different industries throughout the United States and nine other countries. In 1994, he launched his firm, Dr. Dilip LLC, which offers speech coaching, training, and inspirational keynotes. Dr. Dilip delivers keynotes and seminars on creative thinking, relationship building, leadership and spirituality. He is also an ordained elder of the United Methodist Church, serving as the pastor at Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church in Sunbury, PA. In 2005-2006 he served as International President of Toastmasters, with the theme, Find Your Voice, Serve Your World. Dr. Dilip was twice a finalist at the Toastmasters International’s World Championship of Public Speaking, placing second in 1992. He is one of the few Toastmasters to earn the designation of Accredited Speaker in recognition of professional level speaking skills. He is a member of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Toastmasters Club in District 38.

Christine Clapp, DTM


Christine Clapp is the author of Presenting Virtually: A Guide to Public Speaking in Online Contexts; the president of Spoken with Authority, a Washington, D.C.-based presentation skills consultancy that elevates presence and expands influence of professionals and promotes inclusion in organizations. Christine holds two degrees in communication: a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University, and a master’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. She also taught public speaking to undergraduate and graduate students at The George Washington University for thirteen years. Christine is a contributor to the Toastmaster Magazine and earned her Distinguished Toastmaster Award in 2008.

Pauline Shirley, DTM, PIP


Pauline joined Toastmasters as a charter member of TNT Toastmasters in Addison, Texas in 1981. Her leadership experience in Toastmasters runs from Club President to International President. She moved to the Washington, DC area in 1988 and was a member of District 36 until the club she was a member of became a part of the newly formed District 27. She was the second woman in the history of Toastmasters International to be elected International President. When she served as District Governor of District 25, the District was number one in the world and set a new world’s record in number of new clubs started. Pauline remains an avid member of TNT Toastmasters.
